What is SiteAdvisor?
SiteAdvisor is a browser plug-in that is included with your McAfee Security from Bell subscription. It tests websites while you are browsing and warns you of risky sites before you click on them. It alerts you to sites that may try to:
- Install spyware or adware on your computer
- Install keylogging software which can copy your account information and passwords
- Run malicious code to disable or take control of your computer
How it works
When you use a search engine such as Google, SiteAdvisor displays these ratings in the search results:
![]() |
McAfee SECURE: Tested daily for hacker vulnerabilities. |
![]() |
SAFE: Very low or no risk issues. |
![]() |
CAUTION: Minor risk issues. |
![]() |
WARNING:Serious risk issues. |
![]() |
UNKNOWN: Not yet rated. Use caution. |
You'll see a summary of SiteAdvisor's test results when you hold your cursor over the rating.
You may also see an optional search box alongside the rating to help you find a safer, alternative site.
SiteAdvisor Live
SiteAdvisor Live is included with McAfee Security from Bell (Best). In addition to the protection SiteAdvisor offers, SiteAdvisor Live can also block access to risky sites.
How it works
SiteAdvisor Live gives you the option to have a warning page appear if you try to click on a link to a Red or Yellow rated website. The warning message can only be bypassed with a password that you set when you enable this option. This prevents users without the password, such as children, from viewing risky websites.
SiteAdvisor Live also lets you add websites to an Approved Sites list.
Note: SiteAdvisor Live is not compatible with Macintosh computers.
