I’m having problems with my Connection Hub wireless connection

Computer detects wireless network but cannot access it

Ensure you have entered the correct network name (SSID) and password. Both are case sensitive. The Connection Hub can set up networks with WEP, WPA and WPA2 security. Learn more about wireless security modes.

 

Ensure that you are using a wireless adapter that is capable of the type of wireless security your wireless network uses. Otherwise, you may have to change the type of wireless security on the Connection Hub to match the capabilities of your adapter. Cannot access devices in the network

The devices may not be configured to receive an IP address automatically. Check the IP address settings on the devices that are not available within the network.

Guest network stopped working

The default timer for a guest wireless network is 720 minutes (12 hours). This means that after 720 minutes, the guest wireless network will automatically disable on its own. To permanently enable a guest wireless network, you must set the timer to 0 minutes. To learn how to do this, see How to change my Connection Hub settings.

How to improve wireless performance

Wireless performance in your home will depend on several factors:

The distance between your wireless device and the Connection Hub, and the number of obstructions in between.

Long distances and many obstructions (walls, ceilings, etc.) will weaken the wireless signal.

  1. Move your wireless device closer to the Connection Hub, if possible.
  2. If you have a USB wireless adapter plugged directly in the computer, try getting a USB extension cord and placing the USB wireless adapter away from your computer. This may reduce interference from your computer.

The amount of wireless interference within your home.

High amounts of interference will degrade wireless performance. Interference can come from:

  • Other wireless networks in your area
  • Appliances and devices that emit radio waves or interfere with radio waves (microwaves, 2.4 GHz cordless phones, two-way radios, etc.)
    • Try changing the wireless channel on your Connection Hub from "Auto" to a number between 1 and 11. The three to try first are 6, 1 and 11, but you can try any channel to see if it will improve wireless performance.

The wireless standards (802.11 a/b/g/n) used by devices on your wireless network.

There is a single wireless radio in the Connection Hub that will be limited to the lowest wireless standard that is transmitting data. For example, if you have an old Wireless G laptop and a new Wireless N laptop on your wireless network, your whole wireless network will run on the slower Wireless G speed.

  • To improve performance on Wireless N devices, disconnect older devices from your wireless network.

The wireless connectivity/signal of your wireless device.

The Connection Hub is just one side of the wireless connection; your wireless device must also send and receive data. Wireless performance will degrade if your device has a weak signal or reception.

  • Ensure that the most up-to-date drivers are installed from the manufacturer's website.
  • Most integrated wireless devices are better optimized for wireless performance. For example, a laptop with integrated wireless technology may have antennas throughout the laptop enclosure, providing better reception to the Connection Hub.
  • Generally, the more robust the wireless device used, the better the performance.
