How to optimize my Internet browser

Ensure that you are always using the most up to date version of your browser. Running older versions of Internet browsers can expose you to risks. Regular security updates help protect computers from malicious attacks, so upgrading and staying current is important.

How to get the latest version of your browser

Access Internet options.

In the top-right corner of Internet Explorer, click the gear icon to show the Tools menu Tools menu and then select Internet options.

If you are unable to see the gear icon, press the ALT key on your keyboard to show to the menu bar.

Clear your cache, cookies and temporary Internet files.

  1. Click the gear icon to show the Tools menu Tools menu and then select Safety and Delete browsing history.
  2. Select Temporary Internet files and website files as well as Cookies and website data.
  3. Click Delete.

Reset your security level to the default.

  1. Click the gear icon to show the Tools menu Tools menu and then select Internet Options.
  2. Select the Security tab.
  3. Select the Internet icon.
  4. Click the Reset all zones to default level button.
  5. Click Apply.
    If these buttons are grey then skip to the next step.

Reset your privacy level to the default.

  1. Select the Privacy tab.
  2. Click the Default button.
  3. Click OK.
    If these buttons are grey then skip to the next step.

Adjust your local network (LAN) settings.

  1. Select the Connections tab.
  2. Click the LAN settings button.
  3. Uncheck all of the options and then click OK.

Restore your browser settings to the defaults.

  1. Select the Advanced tab.
  2. Under Reset Internet Explorer settings click the Reset button.
  3. If you want to also reset your personal settings, check the Delete Personal settings. This will remove stored passwords and home pages.
  4. Click Reset.
  5. When Internet Explorer finishes applying the default settings, click Close and then OK.
  6. Restart Internet Explorer.

Access Internet options.

  1. In the top-right corner of the browser, click the Chrome menu Tools menu and select Settings.
  2. Click Show advanced settings at the bottom of the page.

Clear your cookies.

  1. In the top-right corner of the browser, click the Chrome menu Tools menu and select Settings.
  2. Click Show advanced settings at the bottom of the page.
  3. In the Privacy section, click the Content settings button.
  4. In the Cookies section, click All cookies and site data.
    • To delete all cookies, click Remove all at the bottom of the screen.
    • To delete a specific cookie, select the site that issued the cookie and then click the X that appears at the end of the line.

Reset your security level to the default.

  1. Review Google Chrome's Advanced security settings support document.
  2. Open the Windows Control Panel.
  3. Click Internet Options.
  4. Select the Security tab.
  5. Select the Internet icon.
  6. Click the Reset all zones to default level button.
  7. Click Apply.
    If these buttons are grey then skip to the next step.

Set your privacy level.

Under the Privacy (Confidentialité) tab, uncheck the privacy settings you no longer want. When you turn a privacy setting off, that information will not be sent to Google.

Adjust your local network (LAN) settings.

  1. In the top-right corner of the browser, click the Chrome menu Tools menu and select Settings.
  2. Click Show advanced settings at the bottom of the page.
  3. In the Network section, click the Change proxy settings button.
  4. Click the LAN settings button. (Paramètres réseau)
  5. Uncheck all of the options and then click OK (cliquez sur OK).

Restore your browser settings to the defaults.

  1. In the top-right corner of the browser, click the Chrome menu Tools menu and select Settings.
  2. Click Show advanced settings at the bottom of the page.
  3. In the Reset settings section, click the Reset settings button.
  4. In the screen that appears, click Reset.

Access Internet options

In the top-right corner, click the menu icon menu and then select Options, Advanced and Network.

Clear your cache, cookies and temporary Internet files.

  1. Click the menu button menu and then select History and Clear Recent History.
  2. Set the Time range to clear to Everything.
  3. Click on the arrow next to Details (Détails) to expand the history.
  4. Select one or more of the following items making sure that those you want to keep are not selected.
    • Browsing & Download History (recommended)
    • Form & Search History
    • Cookies (recommended)
    • Cache (recommended)
    • Active Logins
    • Site Preferences
  5. Click Clear Now.

Reset your security level to the default.

  1. Open the Windows Control Panel.
  2. Click Internet Options.
  3. Select the Security tab.
  4. Select the Internet icon.
  5. Click the Reset all zones to default level button.
  6. Click Apply.
    If these buttons are grey then skip to the next step.

Reset your privacy level to the default.

  1. Open the Windows Control Panel.
  2. Click Internet Options.
  3. Select the Privacy tab.
  4. Click the Default button and then click OK.
    If these buttons are grey then skip to the next step.

Adjust your local network (LAN) settings.

  1. In the top-right corner, click the menu icon menu and then select Options, Advanced and Network.
  2. In the Connection section, click on Settings.
  3. Check Use system proxy settings.
  4. Click OK.
