How to set up parental controls on my Bell Satellite TV

Parental controls give adults the ability to lock certain type of programs on their receiver to prevent children from accessing them. Once the programs are locked, the user will be asked for a password when trying to access the program, either when broadcast live or when recorded on a PVR.

Lock your receiver

To restrict your TV programming, you must lock your receiver and create a password:

9500 and later models
  1. Press MENU on your remote control and select Settings.
  2. Select Preferences.
  3. Select Locks.
  4. Select Lock System.
  5. Create a password and select OK.
  6. Confirm password and select OK.
9400 and earlier models
  1. Press MENU on your remote control and select Locks.
  2. Select Lock System.
  3. Create a password and select OK.
  4. Confirm password and select OK.

Change your password

If you’ve created a password and would like to change it, please do the following:

9500 and later models
  1. Press MENU on your remote control and select Settings.
  2. Select Preferences.
  3. Select Locks.
  4. Enter the current password and select OK.
  5. Select Change Password.
  6. Enter the current password and select OK.
  7. Enter the new password and select OK.
  8. Confirm the new password and select OK.
9400 and earlier models
  1. Press MENU on your remote control and select Locks.
  2. Enter the current password and select OK.
  3. Select Change Password.
  4. Enter the current password and select OK.
  5. Enter the new password and select OK.
  6. Confirm the new password and select OK.

Be sure to remember this new password. It will be required to access the parental locks settings and to view any locked channels.

Set locks by channel or by rating

Locks allow you to password-protect programming based on ratings, or on a channel-by-channel basis. To set locks by channel or by rating:

9500 and later models
  1. Press MENU on your remote control and select Settings.
  2. Select Preferences..
  3. Select Locks..
  4. Enter the password and select OK.
  5. Choose Channel Locks or Rating Locks.
  6. Select the channel or rating you want to lock out.
  7. A check box will appear to confirm your selection. Select SAVE/DONE.
9400 and earlier models
  1. Press MENU on your remote control and select Locks.
  2. Enter the password and select OK.
  3. Choose Channel Locks or Rating Locks.
  4. Select the channel or rating you want to lock out.
  5. A check box will appear to confirm your selection. Select SAVE/DONE.

Ratings overview

  • PG (parental guidance): suitable for children over 8, but supervision recommended for those between 8 and 13.
  • Over 14: suitable for those over 14.
  • Over 18: suitable for adults only.
  • NR/AO (no rating/adult oriented): contains graphic language, violence, nudity, adult-oriented profanity or strong sexual content.

Ratings are set by the television programmers.

Hide/show locked channels

You can choose to display locked channels in your programming guide, or to hide them.

9500 and later models

To hide locked channels:

  1. Press MENU on your remote control and select Settings.
  2. Select Preferences..
  3. Select Locks..
  4. Enter the password and select OK.
  5. Select Hide Locked.

To show locked channels:

  1. Press MENU on your remote control and select Settings.
  2. Select Preferences..
  3. Select Locks..
  4. Enter the password and select OK.
  5. Select Show Locked.
9400 and earlier models

To hide locked channels:

  1. Press MENU on your remote control and select Locks.
  2. Enter the password and select OK.
  3. Select Hide Locked.

To show locked channels:

  1. Press MENU on your remote control and select Locks.
  2. Enter the password and select OK.
  3. Select Show Locked.

Lock Pay-per-view channels

If you lock Pay-per-view channels, the password will be required to view and order Pay-per-view events.

To lock Pay-per-view channels:

9500 and later models
  1. Press MENU on your remote control and select Settings.
  2. Select Preferences..
  3. Select Locks..
  4. Enter the password and select OK.
  5. Select Lock PPV to lock out all Pay-per-view programs.
9400 and earlier models
  1. Press MENU on your remote control and select Locks.
  2. Enter the password and select OK.
  3. Select Lock PPV to lock out all Pay-per-view programs.

Hide/show adult channels

You can choose to display adult channels in your programming guide, or to hide them.

For 9500 and later models

To hide adult channels:

  1. Press MENU on your remote control and select Settings..
  2. Select Preferences..
  3. Select Locks..
  4. Enter the password and select OK.
  5. Select Hide Adult.

To show adult channels:

  1. Press MENU on your remote control and select Settings..
  2. Select Preferences..
  3. Select Locks..
  4. Enter the password and select OK.
  5. Select Show Adult.

For 9400 and earlier models

To hide adult channels:

  1. Press MENU on your remote control and select Locks.
  2. Enter the password and select Ok.
  3. Select Hide Adult.

To show adult channels:

  1. Press MENU on your remote control and select Locks.
  2. Enter the password and select Ok.
  3. Select Show Adult.

Unlock your receiver

If you unlock your receiver, all previously locked channels and content will become available to all members of your household. This includes adult content and Pay-per-view channels.

9500 and later models
  1. Press MENU on your remote control and select Settings..
  2. Select Preferences..
  3. Select Locks..
  4. Enter the password and select OK.
  5. Select Unlock System.
9400 and earlier models
  1. Press MENU on your remote control and select Locks.
  2. Enter the password and select OK.
  3. Select Unlock System.
