How to use Bell Mail

Signing in to webmail

To sign in to your Bell Mail account from the web:

  1. Go to the sign-in page at www.bell.ca/bellmail
  2. Enter your Bell Mail email address under Microsoft account.
  3. Enter your Bell Mail password.
  4. Click Sign in.

You can be signed in on more than one computer at once.

When you are done using Bell Mail, click your name in the top right corner of the window and then choose Sign out, or simply close your web browser. You will automatically be signed out if you leave your Bell Mail idle for a period of time, unless you have checked the Keep me signed in option.

If you prefer, you can also sign in from the sites below, using your Bell Mail email address and password:

Using webmail

Bell Mail features the new Outlook.com email platform with a fresh, intuitive design and clutter-free inbox allowing you to get more done with fewer clicks. Two of the most noticeable changes are:

  • To access your Inbox, Contacts, Calendar or SkyDrive
    Click the down arrow beside the Outlook logo.

  • To reply to, delete or archive an email
    Select the email. The menu bar will appear with all your options.

Compatible browsers

All browsers are compatible with Outlook.com; however, we recommend you use one of the following:

  • Internet Explorer 8
  • Chrome 18
  • Firefox 11
  • Safari 5.1 and newer

Using common features

How do I…?Try this:
See the full Menu bar (Reply, Delete, etc.) Click on an email or click the check box next to an email and the menu bar will appear in the blue bar above your inbox.
Reply all or forward a message Once you’ve clicked on an email or the check box beside an email, click the down arrow next to Reply to see the Reply all and Forward options.

Compose a new email Click New

Add a recipient to an email (using To, Cc, and Bcc fields) Enter an email address in the To box to the left of the email body. Or, click To to select people in your contact list. Click Cc and Bcc to add those fields.
Add a subject Click Add a subject right above the font settings.
Add an attachment Once you’ve begun composing a new email, click the Insert dropdown Insert in the blue menu bar and select Files as attachments.
Add a new folder Right-click Folders and then select Add a new folder.
Rename a folder Right-click Folders and then select Rename.
Make "reply all" your default reply
  1. Click the Options icon and then select More mail settings.
  2. Under Reading email, click Make "Reply-all" my default response.
  3. Select Yes and then select Save.
  4. Click the Outlook logo to go back to your inbox.

Print an email On the main Menu bar click the … (three dots) symbol and select Print.
Create a new group First, go to your contacts or People section.
  1. Click the arrow next to New, and then click New group.
  2. Enter a group name.
  3. Add members by starting to enter their name or email address under Add member. When the contact appears on the list, click it.
  4. When you've added all the members you want, click Save.
Get a list of keyboard shortcuts Press the Shift + ? (question mark) keys.
Personalize your inbox and see more mail settings Click the Options icon. Options
Sign out of your Microsoft account Click your name in the top right corner and then select Sign out.

Accessing contacts, calendar and SkyDrive

To see your contacts/address book (called People), Calendar or SkyDrive:

  1. Click the down arrow next to the Outlook logo.

  2. Select People, Calendar or SkyDrive.

Using Auto-complete

Auto-complete can suggest names when you start typing in the “To” field of a message. To have Auto-complete suggest names from your contacts:

  1. Click the Options icon

  2. Click More mail settings. Under Customizing Outlook, click Advanced privacy settings.
  3. Under Auto-complete suggestions, check Only suggest people in my contact list.

If Auto-complete doesn’t suggest names when you start typing in the To field, you may need to clear your browser’s cache. Choose your browser below to see instructions on how to clear your cache.

If clearing your cache doesn’t work, you may need to upgrade your browser.

Troubleshooting:Error HTTP 500 or HTTP 403

  1. Check the status of service at status.live.com to verify that the server isn’t down.
  2. Clear your browser’s cache.
  3. Try using another computer or a different account.

Using Bell Mail with an Email Program

We highly recommend using web-based Bell Mail, to make the most of its many features. Learn more about Bell Mail.

However, you can configure Bell Mail to work with your email software.

Supported email software:
Mail for Mac OS 10.5
Mail for Mac OS 10.4
Mail for Mac OS 10.3
Windows Live Mail 2011
Windows Live Mail 2009
Windows Mail
Outlook 2010
Outlook 2007
Outlook 2003
Outlook Express

Unsupported email software
If your email software is not listed, you can attempt to set it up yourself using the support options offered by your software manufacturer.

You’ll need your Bell Mail email address and password, plus the following server settings:

Incoming mail server (POP):
POP Server: pophm.sympatico.ca
Port: 995
SSL required: Yes (Select This server requires a secure connection (SSL) or Use SSL.)

Outgoing mail server (SMTP):
SMTP Server: smtphm.sympatico.ca
Port: 25 (or 587 if port 25 does not work)
Authentication required: Yes
TLS/SSL required: Yes (Select TLS if available, if not, select SSL.)

You  will also need to enable POP by logging into  webmail and following these steps:

     
  1. Click the options gear. outlook_gear

  3. Select More mail settings.
  4.  
  5. Select Connect devices and apps with POP.
  6.  
  7. Under POP, check Enable.
  8.  
  9. Click Save.

Resetting your password

If you’ve lost or forgotten your email password, follow the steps below to change it or follow the tutorial.

Reset your password through MyBell

  1. Log in to MyBell (bell.ca) using your MyBell username and password.
  2. On the MyBell homepage, under the My Services section, click View details.

  3. Click on My package and features.

  4. Click on Change next to Email address.

  6. Choose a new password and click Save.

Option 2: Reset your password through Bell Mail

  1. Open the Bell Mail password reset page.
  2. Enter your email address.
  3. Type in the characters shown in the security picture.

  4. Click Continue.
  5. To reset your password:
    Answer your secret question
    or
    Send yourself a password reset email (if you provided an alternate email address)
  6. Follow the on-screen steps for resetting your password.

Tips for creating a strong Bell Mail password

  • Make it at least eight characters long.
  • Don’t use your username, real name, or company name.
  • Don’t use complete words.
  • Make it significantly different from previous passwords and don’t use the same password for all of your accounts.
  • Include a combination of uppercase and lowercase letters, numbers and symbols (such as !, #, *).

Finding your Bell Mail address

You can find your Bell Mail address (ending in “sympatico.ca” or “bell.net”) in MyBell. Follow the steps below to locate it or follow the tutorial.

  1. Log in to MyBell. If you don’t have a MyBell username and password, you can register now or learn more about MyBell.

  2. On the MyBell homepage,  under the My Services section, click View details.

  4. You will now see all the email addresses associated with your account listed next to Email  address.

You can also reset your Bell Mail password if you’ve forgotten it.
