I’m having trouble sending or receiving text messages

Trouble sending or receiving text messages

  1. Can you make calls?
    Learn what to do if you can’t make or receive calls on your smartphone.
  2. Are you able to send text messages?
    To confirm, try sending a message to yourself or a different phone number from the one you’re having trouble with.
    Ensure you enter only the 10-digit area code and phone number in the To field.
    If you received it, the issue may be related to the recipient of your message.
  3. Are you able to receive text messages?
    To confirm, ask a friend (other than the one you’re having trouble receiving messages from) to send you a text message. You can also send a text message to yourself from txt.bell.ca.
    If you received the message, the issue may be related to the sender of the message.
  4. Remove and reinsert the battery and test again.
If these steps haven’t solved the problem, please contact us for assistance. We will need four examples, within the last 48 hours,  from two different numbers including the date, time, number dialled and the other users’ carriers.

I cannot send international text messages

  1. Can you make calls?
    Learn what to do if you can’t make or receive calls on your smartphone.
  2. Are you able to send and receive local text messages?
    If not, see Trouble sending or receiving text messages.
  3. Are you dialing correctly?

    The steps for sending an international text are different depending on which Bell Mobility network your smartphone uses.
    Do you know which network your device uses?


    HSPA/UMTS
    Enter + (plus sign) + country code + area code + phone number

    EVDO/1XRTT
    Enter 011 + country code + area code + phone number
  4. Does Bell have an agreement with the international phone company?
    See a list of supported carriers.
  5. Remove and reinsert the battery and test again.

Trouble sending text to or receiving text from email addresses

  1. Can you make calls?
    Learn what to do if you can’t make or receive calls on your smartphone.
  2. Are you able to send text messages to an email address?
    To confirm, try sending a message to yourself or a different email address from the one you’re having trouble with.
    If you received it, the issue may be related to the recipient of your message.
    If not, see Trouble sending or receiving text messages.
  3. Are you able to receive text messages from an email address?
    To confirm, ask a friend or visit txt.bell.ca to send yourself a text message. Make sure the address that you are sending text messages to is composed of your area code and phone number@txt.bell.ca (e.g., 5143102355@txt.bell.ca)
    If you received the message, the issue may be related to the sender of the message.
    If not, see Trouble sending or receiving text messages.
  4. Are you using the correct address and method?
    The steps for sending a text to an email address are different depending on which Bell Mobility network your smartphone uses. Do you know which network your device uses? HSPA/UMTS
    Compose a new text to email message by entering MAIL(6245) in the To: field, including the email address at the beginning of the message.
    If sending to a Bell mobile phone, 10 digits@txt.bell.ca is required.
    EVDO/1XRTT
    Compose a new text to email message by entering the email address in the To: field.
  5. Is the recipient able to send and receive other emails?
    If not, the issue may be related to the recipient of your message.
  6. Remove the battery. After 10 seconds re-insert the battery.
    If the issue returns, start over beginning with step 2.

If these steps haven’t solved the problem, please contact us for assistance. Provide two examples of when you attempted to send the text messages from your phone.Include the date, time, number dialed and the recipient's carrier.

I cannot send text messages to a home phone number

  1. Can you make calls?
    Learn what to do if you can’t make or receive calls on your smartphone.
  2. Are you able to send and receive other text messages?
    If not, see Trouble sending or receiving text messages.
  3. Do you receive a confirmation message after sending a text to a landline phone number?
    After sending your first text, you will receive a message from 4122. You must reply to this message with the letter E for English or F for French to choose the language delivered to the home phone line.
    After confirming your language, you will receive an alert indicating "Your message will now be delivered".
    You will receive a final confirmation indicating that the message was sent.

    Note: This process can take 10 minutes.
  4. Remove and reinsert the battery and test again.
