Making a collect call

To make a collect call using Bell Home phone, dial 0 and follow the automated voice prompts. The long distance charges will be billed to the person receiving the call, so they must accept the charges before the call can be connected. You'll be charged a small connection fee for long distance collect calls.

Charges are as follows:

Type of call Charges to the caller Charges to the receiver

Local collect call (automated system)

n/a

$1.00

Local collect call (operator assisted)

Long distance collect call (automated system)

Per-minute long distance charges (varies by area)

Long distance collect call (operator assisted)

$4.00

Per-minute long distance charges (varies by area)

Note: some countries do not allow collect calls due to fraud-related reasons.

Rates for collect calls from outside Canada

The rate of a collect call depends on its origin. You should check with the operator to determine the per-minute charge.

Alternatively, you can use Canada Direct, an automated international access service that allows you to call from overseas to Canada or to/within another country and pay Canadian international long distance rates instead of foreign rates.

Blocking or stopping collect calls

There are two ways of preventing collect calls:

  1. Decline when the operator asks  if you are willing to accept the charges.
  2. Call 310-BELL (2355) to restrict collect calls on your account.
