What is Bell Connected Car and how do I use it?

LIMITED WARRANTY – BATTERY FOR BELL FIBRE EQUIPMENT

Limited Warranty. Bell Canada (including Bell Aliant, a division of Bell Canada) (“Bell”) warrants to you as the original purchaser (“Purchaser” or “you”) the battery purchased for the Fibre Equipment (“Original Battery”) for a period of 12 months from the date of purchase of the Original Battery from Bell (“Warranty Period”) when used in the Fibre Equipment (“Warranty”). “Fibre Equipment” means the Home Hub 3000 modem or UPS (uninterruptible power supply), as applicable, provided by Bell in connection with certain of your Bell services. If the Original Battery fails due to a defect during the Warranty Period, Bell will replace the Original Battery with a new or refurbished battery (“Replacement Battery”). Any warranty coverage that remains during the Warranty Period on the Original Battery (when replaced with a Replacement Battery under this Warranty) will apply to the Replacement Battery. No Replacement Battery has any new or separate warranty coverage. Bell reserves the right to limit the number of Replacement Batteries provided to Purchaser during the Warranty Period.

My Battery Isn’t Working. What Should I Do? Ontario and Québec residents please call Bell at 1 866 310 BELL (2355) and residents of the Atlantic provinces please call 1 866 342-7367, so that Bell can confirm that the Original Battery is within the Warranty Period and attempt to diagnose and correct the malfunction over the telephone. Be sure to keep your proof of purchase to establish the date of purchase of the Original Battery; otherwise Bell may have to estimate the date of purchase.

Limited Warranty Exclusions. This Warranty does not cover any Original Battery or Replacement Battery (each, a Battery) that is:

  • damaged due to: abuse, neglect, misuse, accident, theft, vandalism, force majeure events (e.g. fire, flooding, infestation, freezing, power-surge), overcharging or alteration; improper or unauthorized repair, maintenance, installation, set-up or storage; or accessories, wiring or cabling;
  • merely discharged and can be recharged and returned to service;
  • in Fibre Equipment at a location other than a Bell service address or in a modem or device other than the Fibre Equipment; or
  • not owned by the Purchaser.

Exclusive Warranty. To the extent permitted by applicable law (which may vary province to province) and except where prohibited for Québec residents, this Warranty is exclusive and is in lieu of all other warranties, representations, guarantees, terms and conditions, express and/or implied, including merchantability and fitness for a particular purpose. In addition to the rights described in this Warranty, Purchaser may also have other legal rights (which may vary province to province).

Limitation of Liability. To the extent permitted by applicable law and except where prohibited for Quebec residents, Bell's total cumulative maximum liability for negligence, breach of contract, tort or any other claims or causes of action, including fundamental breach, in connection with any Battery or this Warranty is limited to payment, upon request, for actual and direct damages up to a maximum amount equal to the purchase price of the Original Battery, and all other damages, including without limitation indirect, special, consequential, incidental, economic, exemplary or punitive damages, are excluded. You may also be subject to other limitations and exclusions of liability, and obligations, as set out in any Bell terms of service that apply to you. These terms survive the expiry of the Warranty.

Severability; Assignment; Effective Date; Agreement. If any provision of this Warranty is unenforceable, all remaining provisions of this Warranty remain in full force and effect. This Warranty is not assignable by Purchaser. Original Warranty applies only to batteries purchased on or after April 23, 2017 until amended or superceded by Bell. You accept the terms of this Warranty on the earlier of the date you receive a copy or use the Original Battery. If you do not agree with the terms of this Warranty, you have 30 days from the date of your original purchase to return the Original Battery to Bell, unused, for a refund.

More Information. For more information, Ontario and Québec residents should visit www.bell.ca/battery or call Bell at 1 866 310 BELL (2355). Atlantic residents please visit www.bellaliant.ca/battery or call 1 866 342 7367.

Recycling instructions
Bell supports provincial battery recycling programs by remitting Environmental Handling Fees for designated products. For more information about the designated battery types and recycling depot locations, please visit the Call2recycle web-site http://www.call2recycle.ca/.

Bell Connected Car Plug-in – FAQs

How does Connected Car Built-in connectivity differ from Connected Car Plug-in connectivity?

Connected Car Built-in connectivity operates through a SIM card that is already built into select vehicles by the vehicle manufacturer. Connected Car Plug-in connectivity operates through a separate device that is plugged into a vehicle’s on-board diagnostics (OBD-II) port by the customer.

Will Bell Connected Car Plug-in work with my car?

Bell Connected Car Plug-in works with most gasoline- and diesel-engine cars manufactured for use since 1996. It is not compatible with most electric and plug-in hybrid cars. Some diesel cars may not provide complete and accurate fuel efficiency data.

To see if your car is compatible, visit bell.ca/checkmycar.

How do I purchase and install the Bell Connected Car Plug-in device?

    Online

You can purchase and activate Bell Connected Car Plug-in online. Build your plan now.

    In store

  1. Visit a Bell store. You will need to purchase an OBD-II device and subscribe to a Bell Connected Car Plug-in plan.
  2. Insert the Bell SIM card into the OBD-II device (if your sales rep has not already done so).
  3. Download the Bell Connected Car app and then follow our detailed Quick Start Guide to complete setup. The Quick Start Guide is also included in the device box. Make sure your car is turned off completely when plugging in or removing the OBD-II device. You are responsible for ensuring that the device is installed securely and properly.

Reminder: before you purchase Bell Connected Car Plug-in, please make sure your car is compatible. To check compatibility, visit bell.ca/checkmycar. Do not install the device if your car is not compatible.

Note: You do not have to be an existing Bell Mobility customer to activate Bell Connected Car Plug-in.

What is an OBD-II port and where do I find it?

The on-board diagnostics (OBD-II) port is a socket that the OBD-II device plugs into. You can usually find it beneath the driver’s side dashboard near the steering wheel. Check your car’s user manual if you have trouble finding it. It’s the same port that mechanics use to diagnose car trouble and engine problems.

Tip: our compatibility checker tool at bell.ca/checkmycar can also help you locate the OBD-II port in your car.

How will Bell Connected Car Plug-in affect my car battery?

If plugged in, the OBD-II device goes into sleep mode when your car is not being used. When the device is in sleep mode, it does not draw power from your car battery. If you access the app on your phone when your car is turned off, the OBD-II device will wake up to access information about your car; this draws some power from your car battery.

If you park your car for a long period of time (e.g., several weeks), you should unplug the device to conserve battery power. Make sure your car is turned off completely when removing the OBD-II device.

Can I roam with Bell Connected Car Plug-in?

Yes, you are able to roam in the U.S. while using Bell Connected Car Plug-in. The U.S. data roaming feature is built into your Connected Car plan. See the rate plans and roaming fees.

Note: you will only be charged for a maximum of 20 days roaming per Connected Car device within the same billing period.

How do I turn off roaming for Bell Connected Car Plug-in?

If you don’t want to incur Connected Car roaming charges while travelling, you need to unplug the device from your OBD-II port. Make sure your car is turned off completely when removing the OBD-II device. You can also block roaming on your account by calling 1 800 667-0123 (or call *611 from any Bell mobile phone).

Can I use the device in more than one car?

Yes, if your family owns multiple compatible cars, you can use the same device in more than one car. If you move the device from one car to another, it will only be able to track information about the car to which it’s connected. To track two cars simultaneously, you will need two separate OBD-II devices.

Note: make sure your car is turned off completely when plugging in or removing the OBD-II device. You are responsible for ensuring that the device is installed securely and properly.

How does the Wi-Fi hotspot work?

Your car’s Wi-Fi hotspot works just like your home’s Wi-Fi network. It has a default network name and password that you can find on the device and the glovebox card (included in the device box). Only people who know the password will be able to connect.

You can change the Wi-Fi network name and password from the Bell Connected Car app. To change the Wi-Fi settings, the vehicle’s engine must be turned on. If you change the network name and/or password, your connected devices will need to reconnect using the new settings.

Your Wi-Fi hotspot uses data from your rate plan. You can connect up to five Wi-Fi-capable devices to the hotspot, such as smartphones, tablets and laptops.
