Learning about and managing my Motorola smartphone

If your Motorola smartphone becomes unresponsive or doesn't perform as expected, you can perform a hard reset to return it to the factory default state.

  1. Before resetting your phone, turn it off and then on again. This may fix some issues. If your phone won't turn off, follow the steps below.
  2. Press and hold the Volume down and Power buttons until the Android recovery screen appears.
  3. Scroll to RECOVERY MODE by pressing the Volume down button.
  4. Press the Power button.
  5. When you see the Android robot with a red exclamation mark, press and hold the Power button then press the Volume up button.
  6. Scroll to wipe data/factory reset by pressing the Volume down button.
  7. Press the Power button.
  8. Scroll to Reboot system now by pressing the Volume down button. Press the Power button.
  9. The phone will now wipe all contents.
  10. The phone will now reboot to the initial setup screen.

Please note:All of your data, downloaded apps and settings will be erased during the reset. Ensure that any photos, music, documents or other data that you wish to keep is backed up somewhere else, other than on the device itself.

  1. Swipe up to view the apps.
  2. Touch Settings.
  3. Scroll to Storage to see the available memory. To view more information, touch Storage.
  4. The storage details are displayed.

  4. Touch About phone.
  5. The phone number is displayed.
  1. Locate the SIM card slot on your device
  2. Insert the SIM removal tool (included in the box the phone came in) and push to eject the SIM/memory card tray.
  3. Remove the SIM/memory card tray.
  4. With the metal contacts facing down, insert the SIM card into the smaller section of the tray.
  5. If you want to add a microSD card, insert the microSD card into the larger section of the tray.
  6. Re-insert the SIM/memory card tray and push until it clicks into place.
Note: The SIM card slot location may differ depending on your model.

In your device settings, you can see the software version you’re running, check for updates and set up automatic updates (if available).

Before you update

It can take some time to install updates, so make sure your device is:

  • Charged or plugged in
  • Connected to Wi-Fi

To check your software version:

  1. Touch Settings.
  2. Scroll to and touch About phone.
  3. Scroll down and the software version is displayed.

 

To update your software:

  1. Touch Settings.
  2. Scroll to and touch System updates.
  3. Touch Check for updates.
  4. The phone will check for updates. Touch Update now to begin the update.
