What is Text to Landline messaging and how do I use it?

Text to Landline messaging allows you to send a text message from your mobile phone to any landline phone in Canada or the U.S. Text messages are converted into voice messages for the recipient.

Send a Text to Landline message exactly as you would a regular text message.

  1. From your mobile device’s text messaging application, compose a new text message.
  2. Enter the recipient’s landline phone number in the “To” field.
  3. Send your text message.
  4. You will receive a confirmation text message – reply “Y” to accept the applicable charges and have your Text to Landline message delivered.

If the recipient replies, you will receive a text message with a toll-free number where you can listen to the reply.

To address a text message to multiple landline numbers, simply enter the recipients' phone numbers in the "To" field. Each phone number will be delivered and billed as a separate message.

Text to Landline is available in both English and French.

You can type your message in English or French and have the landline message delivered (or “read”) in the language of your choice. The default language is English.

To switch the delivery language: before writing your Text to Landline message, text "F" (for French) or "E" (to switch back to English) to short code 4122.

Once a Text to Landline message is sent, a call is placed to the recipient so they can listen to the message in voice format.

If there is no answer, the message is placed on the recipient’s answering service. If there is no answering service, the system will attempt to deliver the message until the maximum number of rings is reached, then will retry after 10 minutes, and once more after 30 minutes.

Any Bell Mobility customer with a text messaging-capable phone can use the Text to Landline service and no subscription is required.

Charges of $0.30 per message will apply. You will receive a text message to accept the additional charges before the Text to Landline message is sent. You will not be charged if the message delivery fails or if the message is sent to an invalid number. There is no charge to the recipient of a Text to Landline message.
