What is McAfee WebAdvisor from Bell?

McAfee WebAdvisor from Bell is a browser plug-in that is included with your McAfee Security from Bell subscription. It tests websites while you are browsing and warns you of risky sites before you click on them.

It alerts you to sites that may try to:

  • Install spyware or adware on your computer
  • Install keylogging software which can copy your account information and passwords
  • Run malicious code to disable or take control of your computer

McAfee WebAdvisor from Bell also includes the following features:

  • Misclick Protection that blocks malware and phishing sites if you accidentally click on a malicious link
  • Typo Protection that protects you if you type a web address incorrectly and helps point you in the right direction
  • Safer Downloads that scans your downloads and alerts you if we find a risk
  • Security Check that inspects to see if your firewall and antivirus are activated before you surf
  • Safe Browsing that uses a colour-coded system to let you know which links are safe to click

Note: if McAfee WebAdvisor was not installed with McAfee Security for Windows, follow the steps below to install it: 

  1. Visit the McAfee Webadvisor download page and click Free Download.
  2. If prompted, click Save and select a location on your computer to save the WebAdvisor setup file. 

    Note: depending on your web browser and settings, you might need to click a bar or button to allow the file download. 
  3. When the download completes, open the setup program and follow the on-screen instructions to install McAfee WebAdvisor.  

    Note: after you restart your web browser, you might be prompted to select McAfee Secure Search as your default search provider.

Note: McAfee WebAdvisor is not compatible with Macintosh computers.
