Canada’s Anti-Spam Legislation – CASL | Bell Canada

What is Canada's Anti-Spam Legislation?

This federal law is designed to give Canadians more control over the commercial electronic messages (CEMs) they receive.

A CEM is any message sent to an electronic address that encourages the recipient to purchase a product or service.

What is considered a Customer Electronic Message (CEM)?

A Customer Electronic Message (CEM) includes communication sent by:

  • Email
  • Text message
  • Instant messenger
  • Social media

This also includes communication where a secondary message is included and commercial in nature.

How Bell follows CASL

To ensure that Bell is CASL compliant, the following are incorporated into our current practices:

  • Obtain customer consent before sending a CEM
  • Clearly identify Bell as the sender of the CEM (including name and contact information)
  • Provide an easy-to-use option to manage/unsubscribe to Bell marketing communications within the CEM

Why is CASL important?

As a valued customer, it is important to keep you up to date regarding the latest products and services that Bell has to offer. However, if you feel that the information you are receiving is not relevant, it is essential that Bell provides you with the right options to help manage your communication preferences.
