Will my mobile phone or smartphone work on the Bell network?

You may be able to bring your mobile phone or smartphone to Bell. Assuming you're in a position to move to Bell, there are three things you'll need to ensure:

  1. Your device must be compatible with at least one of the following bands:
    • UMTS: band 2 or 5
    • LTE: band 2, 4, 5, 7, 12, 13 or 17
    Not sure which network bands your device supports? Check your device manufacturer’s website.
  2. If your device is currently locked, it needs to be unlocked.
  3. The device has not been reported lost or stolen. We recommend you purchase your device from an authorized retailer.

    If you unknowingly purchase a phone that is on the national list of lost or stolen mobile devices, it cannot be used on the Bell network. Learn more.

    Check if a device is on the list

     Note: A device with a tampered IMEI (the device’s unique International Mobile Equipment Identity number) could have the IMEI of a device that on the list. Bell’s terms of service, prohibit tampering with a device’s IMEI.

If your device is compatible, buy a Bell SIM card online or from a Bell store near you.

Once you've purchased a Bell SIM card:

  1. Insert your SIM card into your mobile phone or smartphone.
  2. Activate your service:
    • For a monthly plan (postpaid plan), please visit a Bell Mobility store or authorized dealer or contact us.
    • For a prepaid plan, complete the activation online. Follow the instructions to pick the plan and features that work best for you.
  3. If you use your phone for web browsing or multimedia messaging (picture and video messaging), you’ll also need to configure the browser and messaging settings.
