What is a Travel Data Pass and how do I use it?

A Travel Data Pass provides a fixed amount of data for you to use on your mobile phone or device while travelling outside Canada. It helps you manage the cost of data roaming.

Without a data pass, you can use data while roaming at the pay-per-use rate for the country you're travelling to. You can use a maximum of $100 of data per billing period, after which you will have to purchase a data pass to continue using data while roaming.

If you subscribe to Roam Better, you’ll need a Travel Data Pass to use data in destinations not covered by Roam Better.

To see travel add-ons and rates, go to bell.ca/travel and select your destination.

You can purchase a data pass up to 30 days before you leave the country, or any time while you're travelling. The pass activates once you start using data while roaming, and then you can use it for 30 days before it expires.

If you know you will need more data than the data pass, you can purchase more than one. Then when you use all the data in the first pass, the second one will automatically activate.

To purchase a data pass on your mobile device:

  1. Launch the MyBell app.
  2. Select your device.
  3. Select Travel & roaming.
  4. Enter a destination in the search bar.
  5. Select the country from the drop-down list.
  6. Select View travel features.
  7. Choose a data pass and select Continue.
  8. Follow the prompts to complete your purchase.

To purchase a data pass on bell.ca:

  2. From the My services page, click Add or remove features.
  3. Under Available features, click Travel.

We'll send you a free text message when you've used 80% of your data pass and when you've used 100%. You can always purchase another data pass if you would like to continue using data while roaming.

If you decide not to purchase another data pass, you can use data while roaming at the pay-per-use rate for the country you're travelling to. You can use a maximum of $100 of data per billing period, after which you will have to purchase a data pass to continue using data while roaming.

You can track your data usage in the MyBell app or by logging in to MyBell.
