How to use Online Voice Mail for my Bell Home phone

How to use Online Voice Mail, a Call Answer feature that lets you access your Bell Home phone voicemail mailbox through your Internet browser.

Online Voice Mail lets you retrieve voice messages online as well as from your phone. You can access your messages from any computer as an audio file attachment (WAV), which you can then listen to, delete, download or forward.

Setting up Online Voice Mail

You must set up your mailbox by phone before you can access your Online Voice Mail service online.

  1. From home, dial *98. Enter your mailbox number (your home phone number with area code).
  2. When prompted, enter your temporary password. This is your 7-digit phone number (no area code).
  3. Follow the prompts to change the temporary password to a new one. It should be 4 to 15 digits and cannot start with 0.
  4. Follow the prompts to record your name or telephone number as a personal identification.
  5. Follow the prompts to record a greeting that callers will hear when your Online Voice Mail picks up (the greeting can be up to 45 seconds in length).
  6. Press the * key to exit.; Your Online Voice Mail service is now activated.
  7. You can now log in to the Online Voice Mail service Web site at www.bell.ca/myonlinevoicemail.

Good to know

  • Avoid passwords that are too simple, such as 1234 or the last four digits of your phone number.
  • Regularly change your password to prevent unauthorized access to your Online Voice Mail. Do not disclose your password to anyone.
  • If you lose or forget your password, you can contact us to reset it (charges apply).

Listening to voice messages

You can retrieve voice messages by phone or online.

To pick up messages using your home phone:

  1. Dial *98.
  2. Enter your password and follow the prompts.

To retrieve messages from another phone:

  1. Call 1 877 BELL-777(1-877-235-5777) from anywhere in Canada
  2. [Enter your password?] and follow the prompts.

Or:

  1. Dial your phone number and press 9 when you hear your greeting.
  2. Enter your password and follow the prompts.

To retrieve your voice messages online:

  1. Log in to the Online Voice Mail Web site at www.bell.ca/myonlinevoicemail using your home phone number and Online Voice Mail password. This is the same password you use to access your Online Voice Mail by phone.
  2. Click on the Online Voice Mail section and then on the audio icon next to the message you want to hear.

Note:

  • Allow a few moments for the message to be retrieved.
  • You can download one message at a time.
  • Your computer must be equipped with sound file (.wav) playback software and speakers or headphones for the playback to work correctly.
  • If your playback software is compatible, you can save the voice message to your hard disk while listening to the message. Once the message is saved to your hard disk (.wav file) you can listen to it anytime or send it as an attachment in an email.

Listening to messages in an extension mailbox

With extension mailboxes, you can have up to 3 additional private voicemail boxes in addition to your host mailbox for different members of your household.

To retrieve messages in a mailbox, dial *98 from your home phone and enter the password for the mailbox you want to access.

Extensions can be added to your service free of charge by calling 310-BELL.

Change the number of rings

  1. Dial *94 and listen for a staggered dial tone.
  2. Enter how many how many rings you would like callers to hear before Online Voice Mail picks up (0 to 9).
  3. Listen for two confirmation beeps, like a busy signal.
  4. Hang up.

Change your personal greeting

  1. Dial *98.
  2. Enter your password.
  3. Respond to the voice prompts by pressing 4,3,1,3.
  4. Record your greeting.
  5. Press #.

Change your pre-recorded name or phone number

  1. Dial *98.
  2. Enter your password.
  3. Respond to the voice prompts by pressing 4,3,3.
  4. Record the new name.
  5. Press #.

Change your password

  1. Dial *98.
  2. Enter your password.
  3. Respond to the voice prompts by pressing 4,2,1, 1.
  4. Enter your new password.
  5. Press #.

Skip to the end of your message

Pressing 3, 3 will bring you to the end of the message. Then you can reply, forward, erase or save.

Know who called and when

Press 5 during playback or at the end of the message for time, date, length of message and caller's number (if available).

Skip another voice mail subscriber’s greeting

Skip another Online Voice Mail or Call Answer subscriber’s greeting by pressing#;during their greeting and leave your message after the tone.

Change your message to another subscriber

When you finish recording a message for another subscriber, press 1 and follow the prompts.

Turning Online Voice Mail on and off

Online Voice Mail will automatically take messages when your line is busy:

  • Dial * 90 to turn it on.
  • Dial * 91 to turn it off.

Online Voice Mail will automatically take messages when you don’t answer.

  • Dial * 92 to turn it on.
  • Dial * 93  to turn it off.
