How to manage Wi-Fi networks on Home Hub 1000 modems

Key features of your Wi-Fi network

The Home Hub 1000 is a wireless 2.4 GHz 802.11 n modem and router that has been optimized to provide the best wireless performance. It also has features that help you manage your Internet experience.

Guest Wi-Fi network

You can set up a guest Wi-Fi network for visitors to your home. The guest network only provides access to the Internet. Guests don't have access to the other devices on your network and cannot change your network's settings

Edit your primary Wi-Fi network's settings (basic)

To access the settings for your primary Wi-Fi network:

1. Open your web browser and visit bell.ca/mymodem or 192.168.2.1.
2. Enter your administrator password. Unless you have changed it, the default password is “admin”.
3. Click Log in.
4. Click on the Wi-Fi settings button.

On the Wi-Fi settings page, you can edit the following:

Turning on your Wi-Fi network
to turn your Wi-Fi network on, set the Primary Wi-Fi network near the top of the screen to the ON position.

Network name (SSID) and password
The network name (SSID) is used to identify (or name) your network. When connecting with a device, you will see this name in the list of available Wi-Fi networks. Once your network is selected, you will need to enter its password from the device.

A network name and password are already provided and you will find them on a sticker on the back of the modem. You can also create your own to more easily identify your network.

IMPORTANT: When changing the network name or password, existing Wi-Fi devices will no longer find your network. Each device will need to reconnect to your network using the new settings.

Edit your primary Wi-Fi network's settings (advanced)

When in the basic view, click the Advanced view button at the top of the screen to access the advanced settings for your primary Wi-Fi network.

In addition to the settings found in the basic view, you can now configure the following:

Network tab

• Broadcast SSID
  Displays your network name (SSID) so Wi-Fi devices can detect your network. If you turn it off, you will need to enter the network name manually on each device that wishes to connect to your Wi-Fi network.
• Security mode
  Choose the encryption type to use. Devices will need to use the same encryption type to connect to your Wi-Fi network.
• Transmit power
  You can set the power level of the antennas used to transmit the Wi-Fi signal. By default, it is set to 100% to ensure the best possible Wi-Fi coverage in your home.

General tab

• Interface type
  You can select one of the available 802.11 standards (b, g, n, ac). It is set to Auto by default so that the modem can choose which Wi-Fi standard is right for the device that is connecting to your network.
• Channel
  Setting the channel to the Auto mode allows the modem to automatically select the best available channel. When it detects too much interference with a channel it will move to another one (called channel hopping).
• Channel bandwidth
  If left in Auto, your modem may be able to use larger channel bandwidth based on your Wi-Fi environment, which may increase speeds for some devices.
• WMM
  Wi-Fi Multimedia (WMM) prioritizes traffic according to four access categories: voice, video, best effort and background. It is enabled by default.

Set up your guest Wi-Fi network

To turn on your guest Wi-Fi network:

1. Open your web browser and visit bell.ca/mymodem or 192.168.2.1.
2. Enter your administrator password. Unless you have changed it, the default password is “admin”.
3. Click Log in.
4. Set the Guest setting to the ON position.

Note: if you cannot turn on the guest network, you must first turn on the 2.4 GHz primary network above it.

Your guests can now connect to your Wi-Fi network using the network name (SSID) and the password displayed on the home screen.

To edit your guest Wi-Fi network’s settings:

1. From your Home Hub’s home page, click the Wi-Fi settings button.
2. In the left menu, click Guest.
3. You can now edit the following settings:
   • Network name (SSID) and password
