When upgrading from a Palm Treo 650 or 700p to a Palm Treo 700wx or Pro, you will be switching from a smartphone running Palm OS software to one running Windows Mobile. This means you will have to install new synchronization software on your computer.
- HotSync your Palm Treo 650 or 700p. When it’s done, disconnect your smartphone.
If you have been synchronizing with Palm Desktop software, note that Windows Mobile smartphones synchronize with Microsoft Outlook.
To switch from syncing with Palm Desktop to syncing with Microsoft Outlook:
Connect your old Palm OS smartphone to your computer.
On your computer:
- Select Start then Programs
- Select PalmOne (or Palm)
- Select PIM Conduit
- Select Sync with Outlook
- When prompted, select Yes to accept the change
- HotSync your previous Palm Treo smartphone.
- When it’s done, disconnect your smartphone.
Install Microsoft ActiveSync (Windows XP) or Windows Mobile Device Centre (Windows Vista) using the CD that came with your Palm 700wx or Pro smartphone.
Once the installation is complete, restart your computer.
Connect your Palm Treo 700wx or Pro smartphone to your computer using the cable that came with the phone. The ActiveSync or Mobile Device Centre software will automatically detect the device and start the setup wizard. The information from your old phone will now transfer to your smartphone.
