How to update my BlackBerry software using Desktop Manager
Launch BlackBerry Desktop Manager from your computer.
If you don’t have Desktop Manager, you can download and install it here:
- BlackBerry Desktop Manager for PC
- BlackBerry Desktop Manager for Mac
- Download older versions of the BlackBerry Desktop manager
If you receive your email in a workplace (using the BlackBerry Enterprise Server), please speak to your system administrator before upgrading your smartphone.

Connect the BlackBerry smartphone to your computer using the appropriate USB

- Launch the BlackBerry Desktop Manager and select Update my device

- Under the Device menu, select Update my device.

- Select Get Update.

Your smartphone will be scanned to determine if your device needs to be updated. If an update is not needed, you will be notified that the software update is complete.

- Before updating your smartphone, backup your device data. Check off Back up device data and select Install Update.

Automatic device backup
BlackBerry Desktop Manager will now begin to backup your device.

- Your BlackBerry will reboot and continue with the installation process.

Important: Do not unplug your BlackBerry smartphone during the update.
- Your device will attempt to restore your information back to your device.
