How to configure my Nokia N86 for the Bell Mobility 4G network

Follow these instructions to manually configure an unlocked Nokia N86 for MMS and browsing on the Bell Mobility 4G network.

Browser settings

  1. Navigate to Access Point settings: Menu > Tools > Settings > Connection > Destinations.
  2. Select WAP Services > Options > New access point.
  3. Select “No” for the “Automatically check” message and select Packet data.
  4. Create a new profile with the following settings. Select Edit to make changes to each field.
    • Packet data access point name: Bell WAP (can be anything)
    • Data bearer: Packet data
    • Access point name: pda.bell.ca
    • Username: None
    • Prompt password:  No
    • Password: **** (Leave as blank)
    • Authentication: Normal
    • Homepage: http://homepage
    • Use access point: After confirmation
  5. Select Options > Advanced settings and enter the following settings:
    • Network type: IPv4
    • Phone IP address: Automatic
    • DNS address: Automatic
    • Proxy server address: web.wireless.bell.ca
    • Proxy port number: 80
  6. Press Back and changes are saved automatically.
  7. Return to the WAP Services menu and move a focus to Bell WAP and press Options > Organize > Change priority and move a focus to Rogers Internet and select OK. Bell WAP will be set with priority 1 on the top.          

MMS settings

  1. Navigate to Access Point settings:
    Menu > Tools > Settings > Connection > Destinations > Multimedia msg.
  2. Select Options > New access point.
  3. Select “No” for the “Automatically check” message and select Packet data.
  4. Create a new profile with the following settings. Select Edit and make changes to each field.
    • Packet data access point name: Bell MMS (can be anything)
    • Data bearer: Packet Data
    • Access point name: pda.bell.ca
    • Username: None
    • Prompt password:  No
    • Password: **** (Leave as blank)
    • Authentication: Normal
    • Homepage: http://mms.bell.ca/mms/wapenc
  5. Click on Options (left soft key) > Advanced settings and enter the following settings:
    • Network type: IPv4
    • Phone IP address: Automatic
    • DNS address: Automatic
    • Proxy server address: web.wireless.bell.ca
    • Proxy port number: 80
  6. Press Back and changes are saved automatically.
  7. Return to the Multimedia msg screen and move a focus to Bell MMS and press Options > Organize > Change priority and move a focus to Media and select OK. Bell MMS will be set with priority 1 on the top.
  8. Navigate to Access Point settings:
    Menu > Messaging > Options > Settings > Multimedia msg.
  9. Set the following setting:
    Access point in use: Bell MMS

Streaming (YouTube) settings

  1. Navigate to Access Point settings:
    Menu > Tools > Settings > Connection > Destinations.
  2. Select Internet > Options > New access point.
  3. Select “No” for the “Automatically check” message and select Packet data.
  4. Create a new profile with the following settings. Select Edit to make changes to each field.
    • Packet data access point name: Bell Streaming (can be anything)
    • Data bearer: Packet data
    • Access point name: pda.bell.ca
    • Username: None
    • Prompt password:  No
    • Password: **** (Leave as blank)
    • Authentication: Normal
    • Homepage: (Leave as blank)
    • Use access point: After confirmation
  5. Click on Options > Advanced settings and enter the following settings:
    • Network type: IPv4
    • Phone IP address: Automatic
    • DNS address: Automatic
    • Proxy server address: web.wireless.bell.ca
    • Proxy port number: 80
  6. Press Back and changes are saved automatically.
  7. Return to the Internet menu and move a focus to Bell Streaming and press Options > Organize > Change priority and move a focus to Rogers Streaming and select OK. Bell Streaming will be set with priority 1 on the top.

Please note that you will have to re-enter the above settings anytime you insert a different SIM card or if you reset to default settings.
