Note: roaming rates and coverage apply to HSPA and LTE capable phones only. Learn more about roaming with an EVDO or 1XRTT capable phone.

For HSPA+ and LTE phones, select a country from the drop-down list to see coverage, rates and available add-ons.

If you want to travel with your Bell Mobility HSPA+ or LTE phone:

Not sure if your phone is HSPA+ or LTE? Use the network lookup tool to check.

If your phone runs on the EVDO/1xRTT network, please use the EVDO/1xRTT roaming tool to see destinations and rates.

Travelling with your HSPA+ or LTE phone

Before you go

  1. Using the tool above, verify that roaming is available at your destination and check the corresponding rates. Also, check which network offers data coverage.
  2. Contact us to ensure roaming and international calling are activated on your account.
  3. Don’t forget to bring your charger and electrical adapter.
  4. Turn on your phone’s screen lock to prevent accidental or unauthorized use. While it’s locked, you can still call emergency services (such as 9-1-1) if needed. For screen locking instructions, refer to the user guide or tutorial in our device support section.

Notes:

  • To contact us while travelling, you can call us free of charge from your mobile phone. We’re available 24/7.
    • From the United States: 1 800 667-7626
    • From other locations: +1 514 420-7748

  • Roaming is not available on Prepaid plans.

While you’re there

Connecting to a network:

  1. When you power on your device, it will select a network for you. If you want to change the network you’re using, you can select a network through the “manual network selection” option on your phone. For instructions, consult your user guide. You can download user guides in our smartphone support section by selecting your device from the drop-down menu.
  2. You’ll receive a welcome message from Bell with the standard roaming rates in that country. You’ll also receive a warning message if your data roaming usage reaches a certain volume.

Making a call:

To make an international call while abroad, you need to add a "+" symbol in front of the number you’re dialling. To get the "+" symbol on your mobile phone, hold the "0" key for a few seconds until "+" appears on the screen.

Retrieving voicemail:

  1. Press and hold the 1 key.
  2. If prompted, enter your 10-digit mobile phone number.
  3. When prompted, enter your voicemail password.

Note: roaming rates apply.

Sending a text message:

To send a text message, you need to add a "+" symbol in front of the number you’re texting.

Using data, email and connecting to the Internet:

Your mobile phone will automatically connect to one of our partner networks in the country you’re visiting.

Data roaming charges can add up quickly. We recommend that you do not use data-intensive applications such as web surfing, video streaming or downloading large email attachments while outside of Canada. Learn more about reducing your data roaming charges while abroad.

Phoning emergency services:

To reach emergency services while roaming on an HSPA or GSM network, dial 1-1-2.
